The Answers
Q.What’s new in this release of Nanocrowd?
A. In addition to more movies (current and classics), here are the biggest new features:
— Find movies by your favorite actor or director
— Get recommendations based on the actors or directors you like
— Add movies directly to your Netflix queue
— Watch full-length movies instantly at Hulu, YouTube, Netflix, Amazon, and others
— Create and annotate your own myMovies movie list
Q.Why don’t you have my favorite movie on your list?
A. We have just gotten started and will be adding more movies soon. If you want us to add your favorites, let us know the movies we’re missing.
Q.What are “Nanogenres”™?
A. Nanogenres™ are little tiny genres that capture the essence or some element of the movie you selected. The 3-word descriptions are a clue to what part of your movie is captured in the nanogenre. We don't make up the nanogenres -- they come from our analysis of the words people use to describe movies. Want details? Read more here.
Q.What is the "Movie in a nutshell"?
A. These are the words that best summarize the essence of the movie. The bigger and brighter the word, the more important it is. Want details? Read more here.
Q.Who decided what movies are Most Like or Least Like each other?
A.We analyze all the viewer comments about your movie and compare them to comments about other movies. Our analysis shows which movies are most like and least like your movie. We don't have editors who review the lists. They come straight from the viewer commentary. Want details? Read more here.
Q.What is a “Crowd Rating”?
A. We analyze the words people use in their comments about movies. With enough comments, we can calculate a numerical rating of the movie. We only use the words from commentary (no ratings of any kind) to calculate the crowd rating. Want details? Read more here.
Q.Why are there so few movies in some of the nanogenres™?
A. Our goal is to recommend movies, not just classify them. Nanogenres™ capture some essence or part of the specific movie you selected, so we can recommend others that are like it, not list all the movies that might be described using those words. For example, if you selected a children’s movie that was about dogs, we might have a “dog” nanogenre™ that includes a list of other movies about dogs, but we don’t want it to include an adult science–fiction movie about giant man—eating dogs.
